Android Poker Apps - Best Real Money Poker Apps for Android

888 poker (also know as Pacific Poker) has a well deserved reputation for being one of the best online poker room available today.  The popular online poker room is now offering its players the chance to play cash games on their Android smartphones and tablets.

The new Android app currently only offers Texas Hold’em ring games, although 888 have assured us that Sit n Go’s and tournaments will be added in future releases.  The good news is the mobile poker app takes players from the main 888 player pool so you will always find plenty of action at all levels, 24/7.

Once major difference between the main 888 poker client and the Android app is the lack of a conventional lobby.  Instead 888 have decided to break the homescreen down into 2 distinct areas, Beginners and Quick Seat.

As you can see from the image below, the Beginners section gives players a choice of either 9-max at 1¢/2¢, 6-max at 3¢/6¢ or 9-max at 5¢/10¢ No-Limit Hold’em tables.

The Beginners area offers low stakes real money poker games
The “Quick Seat” section give users the chance to choose between Pot Limit, No Limit and Fixed Limit games with stakes ranging from 2¢/4¢ all the way up to $3/$6

888 poker have also included a “Practice Play” section with play for fun tables and a Chat option for those who like a bit of banter during a game.

The “Settings” area of the app is pretty basic, only giving users the ability to select an avatar.  You can’t adjust the sound, change the colour of the decks or view your hand history like you can with other mobile poker apps currently available.  Even though the 888 poker app draws players from the main 888 player pool, there is also no way to search for other players.

The latest version of the Android poker app does allow users to tag players, but without notes.  Existing 888 players will be disappointed to hear that it is not possible to merge notes from the main poker client with these Android tags.

The 888 poker apps does not require Flash so it should work on most Android tablets and smartphones.  The app was developed using Adobe Air so Android users will need to download the free Adobe Air app from Google Play.

When Full Tilt Poker lost its license last year it was a black day for mobile poker.  Not only had ones of the best online poker rooms closed, but we also lost the Full Tilt “Rush Poker” app for Androids.  Those of us who played the high-speed “Rush Poker” format knew how much fun and excitement it offered and many of us found it difficult to go back to the slow pace of regular online poker.

In the interim both Switch Poker and Bwin released real money poker apps that were compatible with most Android phones.  Unfortunately, these mobile poker apps did not support multi-tabling so the pace of games was pretty slow.

In July of 2011, a brand new poker room burst onto the scene called “Terminal Poker” which offered  fast paced poker games where players join a large pool of players rather than a table.  A goup of players are picked at random and dealt a hand.  Whenever a player folds or exits a game, they are immediately returned to the pool and dealt another hand with a different group of players.  This cuts out a lot of the waiting around, which means you play a lot more hands per hour.

Terminal Poker offered a mobile poker client that worked on most Androids, iPhones and iPads.  Unfortunately, the lobby was poorly laid out and the poker app lacked a lot of the features we had grown to expect from a real money poker app.  Thankfully Terminal Poker have worked hard over the past year to improve the look and feel of their mobile poker offering.  This month they have introduced their biggest update yet and we must say we are impressed.  Terminal Poker is now listed in our Best Poker Apps for Androids section.  Here are some of the newest features on offer….

BRAND NEW LOBBY ON ANDROIDS

First off Terminal Poker have improved the lobby on their Android app.  It is now possible to get a much better overview of what is happening at the poker room from your smartphone or tablet.  The “Cash Games” section is now broken down into 5 different areas – “All”, “Texas Holdem”, “Omaha”, “Low” and “High”.  Low stakes games range from €0.02/€0.05 to €0.10/€0.20 while the high-stakes tables range from €0.25/€0.50 to €0.50/€1
ANDROID FREEROOL TOURNAMENTS

In my opinion the biggest improvement to the Terminal Poker Android application is the introduction of freeroll tournaments.  When you login into Terminal Poker on your Droid, you can now select the “Freerolls” tab and view all upcoming freeroll tournaments.  Terminal Poker run about a dozen freeroll tourneys every day for their real money players.  Prize pools range from a few euros to a hundred euros.  On Sundays Terminal Poker hold a special tourney where €500 is up for grabs.

Terminal Poker is currently the only real money poker app that offers players the chance to take part in Freeroll tournaments from an Android tablet or smartphone.
PLAY AT MORE THAN ONE POOL AT A TIME

This last improvement is for the very hardcore mobile poker player.  Even though poker games are extremely fast paced anyway, Terminal Poker are now offering players the ability to join more than one pool at the time, which makes for some blisteringly fast Texas Hold’em and Omaha poker games.  You can switch between tables/pools by just swiping your finger across your Droids touchscreen.

Terminal Poker currently offer a few generous 200% sign-up bonus up to £400.  To find out more, visit our Terminal Poker page.

So you’re new to playing poker and you want to find the best real money Android poker app for beginners?  We’ve put together this short guide for new mobile players that outline the main pros and cons of the best beginner Android poker apps.

Bwin Mobile Poker for Android

The first thing that we really like is the “Automatic Hand Selection” feature that automatically highlights your strongest hand.  It is easy to get a little flustered when playing mobile poker games for the first time so we think this is a really neat feature.  It really takes the pressure off choosing the best hand and speeds up play.

The “Hand History” also means you can review your play at the end of every session and spot some mistakes which will hopefully help you improve your game.

Bwin also is part of the world’s largest mobile poker network so you should have no problem finding other players at your skill level at any time of the day or night.

The Bwin Android App also gives users the chance to play at either real money or practice tables.  These play for fun tables can be particularly useful at the beginning when you are still getting used to the controls.

The one slight disadvantage the Bwin app has is that the stakes start at $0.05/$0.10, which is a little higher than the €0.02/€0.04 limits on offered by other mobile poker rooms.

Bwin offer the most generous sign-up bonus for new players.  If you deposit $500, Bwin will match that with another $500, which gives new players a starting bankroll of $1,000.  At the micro-limits 1k should go a very long way.

mFortune Mobile Poker for Android

The mFortune app has one major advantage over every other cash game poker app, they offer a free £5 welcome bonus to new players.  You don’t need to hand over your credit card details or make a deposit to claim this free credit.  All you need to do is sign-up.  This means that new players having a starting bankroll of £5 that they can practice.  Pretty sweet!!

Another really cool feature is the ability to play against friends at private tablets.  When you are new to online or mobile poker, playing against strangers can often add to the pressure.  With the mFortune Android app you can create a private table and invite some of your friends to play a few relaxed hands of mobile Texas Hold’em.

The mFortune app is also compatible with 99% of phones, so you can also play against any of your friends that use iPhones, Blaberrys or Nokias.

Like the Bwin Android app, mFortune also offer “Play for Fun” tables, which might be useful if you want to get in a few practice sessions before you risk your moolah.

Our only gripe with the mFortune app is that the lowest stakes are £0.10/0.20.  This might be a little steep for new mobile poker players.

Terminal Poker for Android

We think the Terminal Poker app would also be great for beginners because they offer the lowest stakes of just $0.02/$0.05.

Terminal Poker run daily freerolls which are a great way to improve your play without risking any of your own money.

Terminal Poker also offers very generous initial 200% deposit bonus up to €400.

Unfortunately, Terminal Poker only offer real money tables which is a bit of a bummer if you are new to mobile poker and just want to play for fun occasionally.

We really hope you have found this mobile poker guide for beginners helpful.  If you have any suggestions, please get in touch and let you know.

_ So you’ve just gotten your hands on a shiny new HTC or Samsung Android phone and you’re contemplating playing a few hands of Texas Hold’em or Omaha poker on your new mobile device.

Here is a brief guide for new mobile poker players that answers many of the most common questions.

Why should I start playing poker on my Android phone?
Many people are happy to just play poker on their laptop or desktop and wonder if there is any need to a mobile poker app.  I was one of those people who didn’t see the point, until one day I downloaded a poker app out of curiosity and now I couldn’t live without it.  Here's a few reasons why...

Mobile poker is great because you can play it just about anywhere.  On a train, waiting outside a changing room for your wife, in a doctor’s waiting room, sitting in a bar, at boring conference call.  I play mobile poker just about everywhere these days (except when I’m operating heavy machinery).

Even when I’m at home, I now tend to play poker on my Droid or iPad more than I do on my laptop.  Waiting for PC’s to boot up is just too frustrating, especially when you just want to play a few quick games.

Playing poker using a touchscreen is also way for fun than using a mouse.  It makes you feel much more connected with the game and is a much more natural way to interact with the game.

Why can’t I find any real money poker apps in the Android Market?
Google made the decision to not allow gambling related material or games into their app store, so you won’t find your favourite PokerStars or Party Poker app in the Android Market.  Instead you can just download them direct for either the poker rooms website or from independent app stores, such as Getjar, Handango, Mobihand, Appoke, SlideMe, YAAM Market and more.

The majority of real money poker apps developed theses days are actually web based so you don’t even need to download an app, you can just play from your Android’s Chrome browser.  The advantage of these mobile poker apps is that they are compatible with every type of smartphone, which is great news if you want to play against some of your friends who use iPhones, Windows Phone or BlackBerrys.

Can I play mobile poker for free?
Not everybody wants to play mobile poker cash games all the time.  Sometimes it’s nice to unwind by playing a few hands of mobile poker just for the fun of it.  The good news is that most mobile poker rooms offer “Play for Fun” tables that allow you play against other players just for kicks.

Are Android poker apps expensive?
No, infact every poker app listed on AndroidPokerApps.com is completely free to download and use.  You only need to get your credit card out if you decide to take a seat at a “Real Money” table.

Which mobile poker rooms accept players from the United States?
In early 2011, Full Tilt Poker released an Android poker app called Rush Poker Mobile.  Unfortunately, they ran into some legal difficulties with the authorities in the U.S. and had to shut down.  Since then, no other online poker room has developed a mobile poker game for U.S. players.

Do I need to create a different account to play poker on my Android?
No, if you are already a member of Bwin, Terminal Poker, mFortune or any of the other poker rooms listed on this website, then you don’t need to register again to start playing mobile poker on your Droid.  Just download the app and start playing.

Is there a PokerStars app for Androids?
No, but they are currently developing a real money mobile poker app for both Android and iOS devices.  It is due to be launched in early 2012.

Can I fund my account from my smartphone?
Yes, most mobile poker rooms now allow you to deposit or withdraw money from your Android phone or tablet.  However, you may first need to login to their main website to register a Credit Card.

What is the best mobile poker room?
This is a tricky question because it depends on what you are looking for.  If you are looking to play a few quick hands and you don’t have time to wait around, then we would recommend Terminal Poker.  Bwin offers the largest mobile poker network, with thousands of players online 24/7.  If you like playing poker rooms with plenty of players at all levels, then Bwin is for you.

Which mobile poker rooms offers the biggest bonuses?
One of the great things about signing up with a new Android poker rooms are the generous welcome bonuses on offer.  Most mobile poker rooms double your first deposit and some even offer no deposit bonuses to get you started.

Do any Android poker rooms offer Rakeback?
Yes, Terminal Poker currently offers 30% rakeback to all its players.

Would you like to play some real money poker on your Android for FREE.  Well that is what Cool Hand Poker are currently offering to anyone who volunteers to test their new poker app for Droids.  Cool Hand Poker will deposit an unspecified amount of money into your account that you can use to test the new app.  The best part is you will be free to withdraw any winnings at the end of the testing period.

To take part, you just need to own an Android phone running Android 2.2 Froyo or later.  You don’t even need to have any poker experience - everyone is welcome (except players from the United States unfortunately).  Participants in this beta testing phase will be required to submit feedback on the new Android poker app as well as the new Cool Hand Poker mobile website.

If you are interested in taking part in this testing process, just drop barrybl@forwardslash.com a line and he’ll send you along instructions on how to download this new real money poker app for Android phones.

Cool Hand Poker is a relatively new poker room that aims to give beginner poker players a friendly, safe and no pressure enviroment where they can develop their poker skills.  Stakes are low and poker players can only play at a maximum of 3 tables simultanously to discourage porfessional poker sharks.  Tables are generally busy, particularly at low buy-in tournaments.

A brand new real-money Android poker app has been launched by Terminal Poker.  The app is browser based so you don’t need to go installing any .apk files to start playing real money poker on your Droid.

Fans of Rush Poker from Full Tilt will be glad to hear that Terminal Poker also delivers a similarly Fast Paced poker experience.  For those not familiar with Rush Poker, here’s how it works.  When you join the action, instead of being seated at a particular table, you instead join a large group or pool of players.  At random a group of players are then picked from this pool and dealt a hand.  As soon as a players folds or exits a hand, they are immediately put back into the pool and selected for a new table with a different group of players.

This means there is very little waiting around at Terminal Poker.  You can constantly being dealt a new hand making for a very fast paced and exciting real-money poker experience.  This type of mobile poker is perfect for Android poker players who just want to play a few quick hands while they commute to work or queue at the checkout.

Another major plus of Terminal Poker is that is it an Instant Play mobile poker app so there is no messing around trying to install or update apk files.  To play poker cash games on your Droid just visit the Terminal Poker website and start playing straight away.

Terminal Poker offer No Limit Texas Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha poker games on Android phones and the stakes at Terminal range from 2c/5c to 50c/€1.

Terminal Poker is currently available in English, German, Swedish, Chinese, Italian and Spanish.  You can also play a mobile version on both the iPad and iPhone.

Here is a cool video demonstration we found of Terminal Poker.
